The rugby league community is mourning the tragic loss of Mitch Cronin, a former Broncos player and captain of the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls, who passed away in a suspected “training accident” just days before his 28th birthday. Cronin’s body was found by his family in their backyard pool, where he had gone for a swim after a weight training session. His manager, Paul Hogan, confirmed the sad news, stating that a heart attack is suspected to be the cause, with an autopsy pending.
Cronin was highly regarded in the Queensland Cup and had made over 100 appearances for the Seagulls, leading them to the 2019 grand final. He was also known for his time with the Canberra Raiders and the Brisbane Broncos. Wynnum Manly Seagulls CEO, Hanan Laban, praised Cronin for his leadership, dedication, and the positive impact he had on those around him, both on and off the field.
