11-year-old boy, Iremide Opeifa, tragically drowned in a swimming pool at Grand Bank Link Hotels. The incident took place on Sunday after Iremide had helped his mother at her shop. After separating from his brother, who was heading home, Iremide went to the hotel, where he was later found unresponsive by the pool.
Kehinde Opeifa, Iremide’s aunt, criticized the hotel for not providing any medical assistance before his mother arrived. She explained that Iremide’s brother discovered him at the hotel and quickly informed their mother, who arrived to find his lifeless body on the floor, with no efforts made to take him to the hospital.
The family also questioned why hotel staff allowed such a young boy into the pool after taking money from him. After reporting the incident to the Onipanu Police Division in Ota, Iremide’s mother took him to three hospitals, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Another relative, Modupe Babafemi, claimed that the police did not examine Iremide’s body and pressured his mother into signing an affidavit not to pursue legal action.
