Seth Trimble dazzles, but UNC’s slow start and stifled stars seal their fate.
Carolina couldn’t overcome a sluggish start, falling 85-72 to Auburn in their second game of the Maui Invitational. The Tar Heels struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, quickly trailing by double digits. While a brief push cut the deficit to three late in the half, Auburn held firm and delivered a commanding performance to secure the win.
Despite Auburn neutralizing R.J. Davis and Elliot Cadeau, Seth Trimble emerged as a bright spot for UNC. He scored 17 points on 7-13 shooting, including 3-6 from deep, and showcased his playmaking skills with a dazzling no-look pass. Trimble spearheaded one of the team’s few comebacks, scoring seven points during a key run that trimmed the deficit to two. However, the momentum was short-lived, and Carolina never got closer.
Ven-Allen Lubin added a spark off the bench, contributing 10 points, 9 rebounds, and a block. His efficient 4-6 shooting and energy in the paint were positives for a team that otherwise struggled against Auburn’s physicality.
The Tar Heels now face Michigan State in the Maui Invitational’s third-place matchup, hoping to bounce back quickly and end the tournament on a high note.
