When the Denver Broncos face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 18, they’ll line up against Carson Wentz instead of Patrick Mahomes. While avoiding the two-time MVP is a relief for Denver, Wentz remains a former No. 2 overall pick with something to prove. Once an MVP frontrunner before injuries derailed his career, Wentz is eager to seize this opportunity.

“I want to play well, win, and prove I belong,” Wentz said, crediting his readiness to staying sharp against the Chiefs’ defense in practice. Making his first start since 2023, the 32-year-old knows5 this could open doors for future roles in the league.

The Broncos, chasing a playoff spot, must stay focused regardless of the QB swap. “We’re preparing like everyone’s playing,” Denver’s QB Bo Nix said. Both teams have been scoring consistently, but Denver’s defense must tighten up to avoid a repeat of their Week 10 collapse against Kansas City.

With Andy Reid calling the plays and the Chiefs’ defense in form, Wentz could prove to be more than a fill-in for Mahomes.
